I have a serious ambition to visit every country in the world (that are in the UN). This July I added four more: Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia (Somaliland) and Djibouti. This involved lots of flying and this can be quiet tiring. I compensate by not generally doing much travel within each country though there are always exceptions. In the case of Uganda, I stayed in Entebbe for four nights and only birded the botanic gardens.
- Stayed at Egg Botanic View (recommended)
- 20 metres walk each day to the front gate of the Botanic Gardens. The equator runs though and it is on Lake Victoria
- Arrived early afternoon on July 12th
- Birded straight after a hot shower in the hotel
- 23 species seen. I concentrated on large birds
- Plenty of birds of prey, either in the air or perched.African Harrier-HawkBanded Snake-EagleLizard BuzzardShikraBlack Kite (Yellow-billed)African Fish-Eagle
- The snake eagle was the best find.
- Lifers included orange weaver, black-headed gonolek, lizard buzzard and crowned hornbill
- The gardens are a known hotspot and I meet other birders on each visit.
